The Seymour Wildcats will face off against the Torrington Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Seymour will bounce into Friday's game after beating St. Paul Catholic, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Seymour snuck past St. Paul Catholic with a 59-54 victory on Wednesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Seymour's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joey Carrafiello, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Shane White, who went 5 of 12 en route to 15 points and eight boards.
Meanwhile, Torrington had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They walked away with a 64-52 win over the Greyhounds.
Torrington's win came from a few key players Seymour will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Adi Puskarevic, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. His evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Logan Tucciarone was another key player, going 7 for 10 on his way to 17 points in addition to eight boards and three steals.
Torrington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matches.
Torrington's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Seymour, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Seymour hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 61 points per game. However, it's not like Torrington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 66.6 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Seymour took their win against Torrington when the teams last played back in January of 2024 by a conclusive 67-46. Will Seymour repeat their success, or does Torrington have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
