Softball Game Preview: Red Bud Musketeers vs. DuQuoin Indians

The Red Bud Musketeers will take on the DuQuoin Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Red Bud's favor as the team sits on six straight wins at home while DuQuoin has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

On Tuesday, Red Bud beat Sparta 6-3. The win continues a trend for the Musketeers in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won nine in a row.

Olivia Geralds spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Julia Whelan was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lilly Minemann, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Red Bud was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, DuQuoin came up short against Anna-Jonesboro on Monday, falling 11-1.

Red Bud's victory bumped their record up to 15-6. As for DuQuoin, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-17.

Red Bud was able to grind out a solid win over DuQuoin when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 9-4. Will the Musketeers repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
