Baseball Game Preview: Port Jefferson Royals vs. Pierson Whalers

The Port Jefferson Royals will face off against the Pierson Whalers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Port Jefferson is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Southampton just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 6-3 to the Mariners.

Meanwhile, Pierson entered their tilt with John Glenn on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They skirted past the Knights 8-6.

Spencer Cavaniola made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andy Wayne, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Max Krotman, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Pierson's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Port Jefferson, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Port Jefferson couldn't quite finish off Pierson in their previous matchup back in March and fell 10-8. Can the Royals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
