Football Game Preview: Hesperia Christian Patriots vs. California School for the Deaf-Riverside Cubs

Two dominant wideouts in Noah Griffin and Morgan Hawkins are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Hesperia Christian Patriots will be playing in front of their home fans against the California School for the Deaf-Riverside Cubs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Hesperia Christian's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They really took it to Lucerne Valley for the full four quarters, racking up a 63-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won five in a row.

Hesperia Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hunter Halbrook, who threw for 56 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Halbrook a new career-high in passer rating (155). Austin McWilliams got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Hesperia Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Josh Lewis and McWilliams. Lewis got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Hesperia Christian, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of McWilliams, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, California School for the Deaf-Riverside blew past California School for the Deaf, posting a 52-6 victory. The Cubs' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

California School for the Deaf-Riverside's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Hesperia Christian, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 5-1.

Hesperia Christian was taken down by California School for the Deaf-Riverside 60-6 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Patriots were down 52-6.
