St. Bernard had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Monday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against the South Spartans. That's two games straight that the Vikings have won by just one run.

Not much got past Juan Sandoval, who gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks to keep South off the board. Those 11 strikeouts gave Sandoval a new career-high.

On the hitting side, St. Bernard's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lennex Minor, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

St. Bernard's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for South, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-3.

St. Bernard and South should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. St. Bernard will challenge Hamilton at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday up 496 places (103 vs. 599). The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (St. Bernard 2.2, South 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Similarly, South (ranked 67th) will meet Wiseburn- Da Vinci (ranked 217th) at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
