Softball Recap: Providence Extends Home Winning Streak to 15

Providence put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hough Huskies a 3-0 shutout. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

The result came thanks to Sophie Strugar's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Casey Tomljanovic was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Providence's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-4. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.5 runs. As for Hough, with the defeat, they broke their 12-game winning streak and moved their record to 18-3.

Providence and Hough should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Panthers (ranked 16th) will meet East Mecklenburg (ranked 237th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Hough will challenge Mallard Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (78 vs. 333).
