Softball Recap: Donovan Catholic Takes Down Ranked Cedar Grove

Donovan Catholic faced Cedar Grove in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Sunday. The Griffins put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 8-2 win. The Griffins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

Dani Rodriguez looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

At the plate, Donovan Catholic got a massive performance out of Gia Gordon, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs Gordon has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Maria, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Donovan Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive matchups.

Donovan Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Cedar Grove, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Donovan Catholic has already played their next game, a 16-3 win against Jackson Memorial on the 15th. As for Cedar Grove, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 9-2 victory against Glen Ridge on the 14th.
