Basketball Recap: Rock Point Beats Greyhills Academy for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Rock Point won the last time they faced Greyhills Academy, and Ryer James did his part to make sure it happened again. The Rock Point Cougars blew past the Greyhills Academy Knights 75-22 on Tuesday thanks in part to James, who went 16 of 26 on his way to 38 points along with seven boards and six steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Rock Point's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Quintin Yazzie, who posted eight points and ten steals. He is becoming a predictor of Rock Point's success: when he posts at least five steals the team is 3-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

The win was the fourth in a row for Rock Point, bringing their record for this year to 5-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for Greyhills Academy, their loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Rock Point and Gila Ridge will compete for holiday cheer at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. Rock Point is facing Gila Ridge at the right time seeing as Gila Ridge is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Greyhills Academy, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Grand Canyon at 7:30 p.m. on January 9, 2025.
