Basketball Recap: Manteo Takes a Loss

Manteo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Camden County Bruins and fell 39-10. The game marked the Redskins' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Despite the loss, Manteo had strong showings from Mya Kelly, who posted three points and 21 rebounds, and Jazmine Cooper, who scored four points along with 11 boards and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Cooper a new career-high in blocks (three). Whitney Salazar also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Even though they lost, Manteo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. This was only their 11th loss (out of 13 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

Aaliyah Anderson went supernova for Camden County, dropping a double-double with 22 points and 19 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Anderson has scored at least a third of Camden County's points. Leilah Roberson was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to seven assists and three steals.

Manteo's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Camden County, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-12 and their overall record up to 2-19.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Camden County beat Manteo by a score of 42-31 on Saturday.
