The Camas Papermakers will face off against the Seton Catholic Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Camas is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Camas and Union meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Papermakers took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Titans. The match marked the Papermakers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Jayda Peterson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Hayden Wiest was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run. Kalli True was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Seton Catholic entered their tilt with Toutle Lake on Saturday with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. They were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over the Ducks. Considering the Cougars have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Seton Catholic also got a great performance from Zola Stephens as she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, Stephens posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Kingsley Williams was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brooklynn Lubisich, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Seton Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Toutle Lake only posted an OBP of .238.
Seton Catholic's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Camas, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Camas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. However, it's not like Seton Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .413. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
