Baseball Recap: Varnum's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to 11

Varnum waltzed into their game on Friday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. Everything went their way against the Wetumka Chieftains as they made off with a 14-5 victory. Considering the Whippets have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Payton Romines made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Romines was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. Romines is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Varnum let Chance Winsett and Devyn Fullbright run wild. Winsett scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Fullbright scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Fullbright is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylan Mack, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Varnum was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Varnum pushed their record up to 17-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Wetumka, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Varnum will host Allen at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Wetumka, they will welcome Stroud at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Chieftains will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least ten runs in their last six contests.
