Volleyball Recap: Messalonskee Falls Short Against Ranked Gardiner + How To Watch

Messalonskee faced Gardiner in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Eagles fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 3-2. Eagles fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Tigers since Wednesday.

Messalonskee took Gardiner into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 23-25, 23-25, 25-14, 15-11.

Despite the loss, Messalonskee saw an underclassman step up: freshman Reese Hanscom had 13 digs and four blocks. Those 13 digs set a new season-high mark for Hanscom.

Messalonskee now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Gardiner, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1.

Messalonskee didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Washington Academy on the 19th. As for Gardiner, they will challenge Edward Little at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
