Basketball Game Preview: Churchill Bulldogs vs. Whitman Vikings

Churchill and Whitman are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Churchill Bulldogs will take on the Whitman Vikings at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.

Last Saturday, Churchill ended up a good deal behind Lanham Christian and lost 59-40. The matchup marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Whitman). They managed a 70-65 win over Oakdale on Friday. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Oakdale are ranked 128th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Whitman's win came from a few key players Churchill will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Max Williams, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 16 points in addition to six assists and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Brown, who posted 21 points.

Churchill's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Whitman, their record is now 6-2.

Churchill came up short against Whitman in their previous meeting back in February, falling 68-63. Can Churchill avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
