Preview: Hawthorne Hornets vs. Fort White Indians
Hawthorne is 10-0 against Fort White since December of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Hawthorne Hornets are on the road again and plays the Fort White Indians at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
With a playoff game on the line, Hawthorne rose to the challenge on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Panthers and snuck past 76-74.
CJ Ingram continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 31 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Hawthorne's points. Another player making a difference was Leland Johnson, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Fort White's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 69-57 to Hawthorne. While losing is never fun, Fort White can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while Hawthorne is ranked 86th).
Hawthorne has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. As for Fort White, their loss dropped their record down to 16-6.
Hawthorne beat Fort White 69-57 in their previous matchup on Thursday. Will Hawthorne repeat their success, or does Fort White have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
