Volleyball Game Preview: Elmwood Trojans vs. Cuba/Spoon River Valley Wildcats

The Elmwood Trojans will face off against the Cuba/Spoon River Valley Wildcats at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Cuba/Spoon River Valley took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Elmwood, who comes in off a win.

Elmwood took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Delavan by a score of 2-0.

Elmwood easily took the first set, but they let things get interesting in the other. The final score came out to 25-14, 25-21.

Meanwhile, Cuba/Spoon River Valley unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-match winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Biggsville West Central by a score of 2-1.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Cuba/Spoon River Valley sadly wound up on the wrong side. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 19-25, 25-22.

Elmwood pushed their record up to 19-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Cuba/Spoon River Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 12-5.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's matchup: Elmwood has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.5 aces per game. However, it's not like Cuba/Spoon River Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
