Basketball Recap: Lainey Thomas' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Uwharrie Charter Academy over Wheatmore

Uwharrie Charter Academy has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 48-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wheatmore Warriors on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 52-42 back in January.

Uwharrie Charter Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Lainey Thomas, who posted 13 points. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Kayla Brown was another key player, going 5-for-9 on her way to 10 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Uwharrie Charter Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in ten consecutive games.
