Softball Recap: Valley Center Comes Up Short

Valley Center had lost four straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 8-16 to make it five. They lost 20-2 to the Mt. Carmel Sundevils. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sundevils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-3 back in March.

Valley Center saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Su'La Devers, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Mt. Carmel, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games.

On Mt. Carmel's side, Riley Ronald made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Ronald has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 5-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaili Martha, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Jordan Grimaud was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and one RBI.

Valley Center wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 14-4 defeat against Ramona on the 9th. As for Mt. Carmel, they have also already played their next game, an 8-3 victory against Fallbrook on the 9th.
