League recap: Staunton beats Carlyle in tight affair

Staunton and Carlyle played the closest game in South Central this week, with Staunton eventually emerging with a 19-14 victory. Jake Bruhn threw for 122 yards and 1 touchdown during the win.

Carlinville lost to Auburn 49-19 last week, the largest margin of any game.

The Bulldogs' Bruhn and Marcus Sitko have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-10 quarterback Bruhn has thrown for 951 yards this season, while Sitko has 30 catches for 531 yards. The Cavaliers' Kinney Myles leads the league in rushing yards with 1,583.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Staunton takes on Gillespie. As it stands, Mike Parmentier's team is in fourth, while the Miners are in second.

The Bulldogs made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,202 from 7,746. The advance stemmed from a 19-14 victory over the Indians last week.
