Softball Game Preview: Lake Catholic Cougars vs. Wickliffe Blue Devils

The Lake Catholic Cougars will head out to take on the Wickliffe Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Lake Catholic has now lost 15 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 24.

Lake Catholic fell victim to North and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Rangers, falling 12-0.

Lake Catholic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cailyn Forkins, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Forkins' first of the season.

Meanwhile, while Wickliffe put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Kirtland. The Blue Devils put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 14-0 win. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by eight runs or more this season.

Audrey Musgrave and Abby Sulyok did most of the damage at the plate: Musgrave got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Sulyok went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Madison Rusnak was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Wickliffe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Wickliffe's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-7. As for Lake Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-15.

Lake Catholic got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April of 2021 against Wickliffe by a conclusive 11-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
