Softball Game Preview: Centennial Eagles vs. St. Cloud Bulldogs

The Centennial Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the St. Cloud Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Centennial 3.4, St. Cloud 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Centennial is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering South Fork just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 5-4.

Hailey Brereton put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Brereton wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Giana Devries, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, St. Cloud entered their tilt with Innovation on Tuesday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They came out on top against the Bulls by a score of 8-3.

St. Cloud pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Centennial, their loss dropped their record down to 7-2.

Centennial skirted past St. Cloud 2-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Centennial since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
