Basketball Recap: Yuma Catholic Comes Up Short

Yuma Catholic and Coolidge squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Yuma Catholic had to settle for second. They took a 37-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Coolidge Bears. The Shamrocks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.

Despite the loss, Yuma Catholic still got an impressive performance from Amanda Wiley, who went 6-for-10 to rack up 14 points and eight boards. What's more, Wiley also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in November of 2024.

Coolidge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alaysia White led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. White is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 48 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Amaira Miguel, who posted six points along with eight boards and three steals.

Yuma Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 20-8. As for Coolidge, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season.

Yuma Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Coolidge, they will venture away from home to face off against Chinle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Coolidge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.3 points per game this season.
