Football Game Preview: Vero Beach Indians vs. Centennial Eagles

The Vero Beach Indians will face off against the Centennial Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Vero Beach 10.1, Centennial 10.3) so any points scored will be well earned.

Last Tuesday, Vero Beach came up short against Melbourne and fell 14-7.

Meanwhile, Centennial never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Tradition Prep with a sharp 26-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won three in a row.

Vero Beach better keep an eye on Miley McCarty. She was instrumental in Centennial's win, throwing for 93 yards and three TDs, while also rushing for 77 yards on only nine carries. That's the most rushing yards McCarty has posted since back in March of 2024.

Centennial's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Sara Smith with two sacks.

Centennial's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 3.0 points on average over those games. As for Vero Beach, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Vero Beach against Centennial in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as the squad secured a 27-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
