Basketball Game Preview: Springstead Eagles vs. Lecanto Panthers

The Springstead Eagles will head out to challenge the Lecanto Panthers at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Springstead picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 53-29 margin over St. Augustine. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 24 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Lecanto blew past Citrus, posting a 62-21 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Springstead better keep an eye on Bryleigh Florio. She was instrumental in Lecanto's win, going 8 of 17 en route to 31 points and five steals. Florio is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Shawna Griffin, who posted seven points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Lecanto smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 12 consecutive contests.

Lecanto has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points per game. As for Springstead, their win bumped their record up to 13-4.

Springstead didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Lecanto in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 42-37 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Springstead since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
