Basketball Recap: Sacred Heart Prep Comes Up Short

Sacred Heart Prep entered their match against King's Academy on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Sacred Heart Prep Gators received a blow as they fell 66-47 to the King's Academy Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 66-62 two weeks ago.

When it comes to explaining why Sacred Heart Prep lost, don't look at Matthew Norris. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 11 en route to 21 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. Norris is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last five games he's played. Alex Osterloh was another key player, putting up 12 points.

King's Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Xavier Barnett led the charge by going 7 for 11 to rack up 18 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. The dominant performance gave Barnett a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Boss Mhoon, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 11 points and five steals.

Sacred Heart Prep suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 13-7. As for King's Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.

Sacred Heart Prep wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 57-51 loss against Carmel on the 8th. As for King's Academy, they will head out to challenge Menlo School at 7:30 p.m. on February 14th.
