South Anchorage is a perfect 10-0 against West Anchorage since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wolverines will take on the Eagles at 7:15 p.m. South Anchorage will be strutting in after a win while West Anchorage will be coming in after a loss.
South Anchorage took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Service, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wolverines narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Cougars 3-2.
David Feigner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, South Anchorage's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Landon Drumm, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, West Anchorage faced Dimond in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Eagles took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lynx.
Beckett Stolp was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Braden Meissner, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
South Anchorage's victory bumped their record up to 16-2. As for West Anchorage, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. South Anchorage has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like West Anchorage struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
South Anchorage skirted past West Anchorage 3-2 in their previous matchup last Saturday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
