Basketball Recap: Weston Driggers' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wheatmore over Providence Grove

Wheatmore lost against Providence Grove back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Wheatmore Warriors took a 58-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Providence Grove Patriots.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Weston Driggers, who went 6 for 15 on his way to 17 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Driggers a new career-high in points. Wyatt Stepp was another key player, going 5 of 12 en route to 15 points.

Providence Grove's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Will Dabbs led the charge by going 8 for 20 on his way to 22 points and eight rebounds. Dabbs has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Thomas, who posted 16 points and four steals.

Wheatmore's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Providence Grove, their win bumped their record up to 7-8.

Wheatmore will be playing at home against Randleman at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Wheatmore has won three straight at home, while Randleman won seven straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Providence Grove, they will head out to take on Uwharrie Charter Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Uwharrie Charter Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.8 points per game this season.
