Baseball Recap: Purdue Polytechnic Find Success

Purdue Polytechnic had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with an 11-8 win over Greater Praise Christian Academy on Thursday.

Nevan Jeffers and Ja'Rell Smith made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Jeffers pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Smith pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Jeffers posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. At bat, Jeffers went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple, while Smith went 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Jordan Winkler and Jackson Jeffers did most of the damage at the plate: Winkler went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Jackson went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Those three hits gave Jeffers a new career-high.

Greater Praise Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

When Purdue Polytechnic and Greater Praise Christian Academy next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Techies will face off against Memphis Central and their five-game winning streak at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Greater Praise Christian Academy will try to stop Germantown's five-game winning streak when they meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
