Basketball Game Preview: Cactus Cobras vs. Agua Fria Owls

Cactus has gone 4-0 against Agua Fria recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Cactus Cobras will be playing at home against the Agua Fria Owls at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Tuesday, Cactus was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 54-48 to Paradise Valley. While losing is never fun, the Cobras can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 238th, while the Trojans are ranked 88th).

The losing side was boosted by Xavier Ledet, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aden Thiesse, who posted five points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks on offense in their last four contests, Agua Fria finally came back down to earth back in December of 2024. They had to suffer through a 64-30 loss at the hands of Cactus Shadows. The matchup marked the Owls' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Cactus will have to contain Micah Mccalla as he made an impact in Agua Fria's last game. He had nine points and three steals.

Cactus has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points per game. As for Agua Fria, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-7.

Cactus took their win against Agua Fria when the teams last played back in January of 2024 by a conclusive 72-52. Will Cactus repeat their success, or does Agua Fria have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
