Baseball Game Preview: Alamogordo Tigers vs. Mayfield Trojans

Alamogordo hasn't had much luck against Mayfield recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Trojans at 5:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Alamogordo is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Organ Mountain.

Kade Kiss spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jaden Ruiz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

Meanwhile, Mayfield faced Centennial in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Trojans fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 2-1. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Alamogordo's defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Mayfield, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-9-1.

Alamogordo came up short against Mayfield in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 7-4. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
