Softball Recap: Make It Eight in a Row for Ely

Ely came tearing into Friday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They had just enough and edged out Hill City/Northland 4-2. That's two games straight that the Timberwolves have won by exactly two runs.

Zoe MacKenzie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ely's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Huntington, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

Ely's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Hill City/Northland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-4.

Coming up, Ely will welcome Two Harbors at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Hill City/Northland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
