Recap: Chase County Longhorns vs. Gordon-Rushville Mustangs
The Chase County Longhorns fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Gordon-Rushville Mustangs on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 30-29 to the Mustangs. Chase County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Gordon-Rushville apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.
Leading Gordon-Rushville to victory were Haley Johnson and Taylor Trinity. Johnson scored 15 points, while Trinity scored 12 points along with six rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Johnson has scored at least 25% of Gordon-Rushville's points.
Chase County are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.3 points per game. As for Gordon-Rushville, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chase County will face off against Dundy County-Stratton on Tuesday. Gordon-Rushville won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Sidney at 1:00 p.m. on December 30th. Sidney has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 247 points over their last four contests.
