Baseball Recap: Leon Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lincoln, Leon was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They never let the Godby Cougars get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won nine matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kolbe Baker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Jacob Strunk and Baker Safley did most of the damage at the plate: Strunk scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Safley scored two runs while going 1-for-4. Safley has become a key player for Leon: the team is 8-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Raney McMullian also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Leon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February.

Leon's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-7. As for Godby, they dropped their record down to 3-10 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Leon wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 12-0 win against Rickards on the 28th. As for Godby, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 14-3 loss against Madison County on the 28th.
