Baseball Recap: Southwestern Has No Trouble Against Jac-Cen-Del

Southwestern got themselves on the board against Jac-Cen-Del on Wednesday, but Jac-Cen-Del never followed suit. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Eagles. Considering the Rebels have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Adam Traylor made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Southwestern is undefeated when Traylor posts two or more runs, but 3-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jeter Chatham, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Southwestern's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Andrew Varble, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Southwestern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jac-Cen-Del only posted a batting average of .067.

Southwestern has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Jac-Cen-Del, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.

Coming up, Southwestern will take on Scottsburg at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Jac-Cen-Del, they will welcome Hauser at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jets have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season.
