NBA Draft: State-by-state look at high schools of first-round picks over last 10 years

By Thomas Frey Jun 26, 2024, 10:00am

Florida has produced 34 first-round selections since 2014.

There have been 300 first-round selections in the NBA Draft since 2014 and 256 played high school basketball in the United States. Of the 256 players, Florida leads the way with 34. The top five states — California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana and Texas — have combined for 100 first round selections

Some notable selections from Florida include Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, R.J. Barrett, Cade Cunningham and the Thompson twins. In 2023 the Sunshine State saw 10 players selected in the first round.

Texas is second with 19 players as De'Aaron Fox, Jarrett Allen, Pascal Siakam, Julius Randle and Tyrese Maxey headline selections from the Lone Star State.

California rounds out the top three is 18, led by Jalen Green, Aaron Gordon, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Evan Mobley.

Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) had more first-round picks than any high school with 11 over the past decade, including four in 2021. IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) was second with nine first round picks in that span.

In total, 39 different states along with the District of Columbia have had at least one player selected in the first round. Players were paired with the last high school they attended.
