Softball Recap: Lathrop Malemutes vs. Colony Knights

Suggested Video

Lathrop had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it five. They lost 16-5 to the Colony Knights. The Malemutes were not able to make up for their defeat to the Knights from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Kaylee Himes was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Halle Rainer also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Colony, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 21-5-1. Considering they have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

On Colony's side, Kaidence Browning was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Browning has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexis Congdon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Malana Bell, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

While Lathrop had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
