Baseball Recap: Southmoore Comes Up Short

After flying high against Millwood on Thursday, Southmoore came back down to earth. The SaberCats fell 7-4 to the Ponca City Wildcats on Friday. The SaberCats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Southmoore saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landin Shippers, who went 1-for-3 with two runs. The SaberCats are 8-1 when Shippers posts two or more runs, but 6-19-1 otherwise. Frank Coats was another, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Southmoore's defeat was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 14-20-1. As for Ponca City, they moved to 13-21 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Coming up, Southmoore will face off against Duncan at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Ponca City, they will challenge Newkirk at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
