Softball Game Preview: Dwight Trojans vs. Serena Huskers

The Dwight Trojans will venture away from home to take on the Serena Huskers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Dwight is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.

Dwight is headed into the game having just suffered their closest loss since March 17th on Tuesday. They fell just short of Henry-Senachwine by a score of 6-4.

Averi Jury was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Serena got themselves on the board against Earlville on Tuesday, but Earlville never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Red Raiders with a sharp 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Huskers, who have now won six matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Serena got a massive performance out of RayElle Brennan, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave Brennan a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anna Hjerpe, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Serena's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Dwight, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.

Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dwight hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Serena struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Dwight couldn't quite get it done against Serena in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
