Softball Recap: Union Cougars vs. South Summit Wildcats

If Union was feeling good off their 12-0 takedown of Ben Lomond last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Union Cougars fell just short of the South Summit Wildcats by a score of 9-7 on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Union of the 6-5 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture last Tuesday.

Peyton Barney was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with a home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Josie Prevedel, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Even though they lost, Union hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Summit struck out six times.

On South Summit's side, Malia Olson was excellent, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Mariah Bowen, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Union has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season. As for South Summit, their victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-6.

Union does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South Summit, they will head out on the road to challenge Ogden at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Summit is facing Ogden at the right time seeing as Ogden is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
