For Lafayette's part, Jenny Dreher made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over eight innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Dreher was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rileigh Jones, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Bella Bumgardner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Lafayette hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pontotoc struck out seven times.
The win was the seventh in a row for Lafayette, bringing their record up to 20-7. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Pontotoc, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-12.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pontotoc hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Lafayette struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
