Softball Game Preview: Wayne Badgers vs. Pinnacle Panthers

The Wayne Badgers will take on the Pinnacle Panthers at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wayne knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Pinnacle likes a good challenge.

On Friday, Wayne got the win against Panguitch by a conclusive 16-7. Considering the Badgers have won 14 contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Rylan Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cassie Rees was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jenna Erickson, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Pinnacle's offense. They lost 17-0 to Milford on Saturday. The Panthers have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Wayne's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 17-9. As for Pinnacle, their loss dropped their record down to 0-17.

Wayne got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March of 2025 against Pinnacle by a conclusive 17-2 score. Will the Badgers repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
