Baseball Game Preview: Portsmouth Trojans vs. Gallia Academy Blue Devils

The Portsmouth Trojans are taking a road trip to challenge the Gallia Academy Blue Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Portsmouth is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.

Portsmouth had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Dawson-Bryant on Wednesday. The Trojans blew past the Hornets 13-2. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won four games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Trevin Brooks was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, J.T. Williams was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Braxton Carr, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Gallia Academy sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over Rock Hill on Saturday. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Redmen recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Portsmouth's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Gallia Academy, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 5-10.

Portsmouth skirted past Gallia Academy 8-6 in their previous matchup on April 11th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
