Softball Recap: Sayre Redskins vs. Canton Warriors

Sayre had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-7 to make it six. They lost 13-3 to the Canton Warriors. The Redskins were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Warriors earlier this season, when they won 16-11.

Sayre saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Raegan Parrish, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Zoe Ward also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

As for Canton, their victory ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-10. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

On Canton's side, Jaylee Ward made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off 11 hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Ward a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs.

She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Tiffany Acla was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs.

Sayre has already played their next contest, a 16-5 defeat against Sullivan County on the 23rd. As for Canton, they are taking a road trip to face off against Cowanesque Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
