Baseball Game Preview: Weaver Beavers vs. Somers Spartans

The Weaver Beavers will venture away from home to square off against the Somers Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Weaver has given up an average of 13.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Weaver is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Wolcott RVT on Monday. They lost 12-0 to the Wildcats. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Beavers were not able to get on the board.

Weaver saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dennis Marrero, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. That double marked the first that Marrero has hit this season.

Somers had taken Canton down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Wednesday. The Spartans fell 5-2 to the Warriors. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Somers' loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Weaver, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Weaver has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Somers struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Weaver might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Somers in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Beavers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
