Softball Recap: Montcalm Takes a Loss

Montcalm extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-13 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mount View Golden Knights. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Generals have suffered since April 21st.

As for Mount View, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games.

For Mount View's part, Phoebe Dudgeon made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Dudgeon has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Malayah Barnes, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 14 matchups. Krislyn York was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Montcalm does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mount View, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Greenbrier West at 6:00 p.m. on the 19th. The Cavaliers will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Golden Knights surely won't give up without a fight.
