Softball Recap: Dekalb Starts Season with Win Against Prairie Heights

DeKalb took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Prairie Heights Panthers, sneaking past 5-3. The win continues a trend for the Barons in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.

Summer Haverstock spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up 15 Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Serena Wineland, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rylee Moore, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Prairie Heights' loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, DeKalb will take on Eastside at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Prairie Heights, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against East Noble at 5:30 p.m.
