Baseball Recap: Smith Vo-Tech Extends Winning Streak to Six

Smith Vo-Tech strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on the Smith Academy Falcons with a sharp 15-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kaleb Jorritsma was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Jorritsma was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

In other batting news, Smith Vo-Tech got a big performance out of Logan Brothers, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Jarred Baer also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Smith Vo-Tech's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Smith Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smith Vo-Tech will host Commerce at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Smith Academy, they will be playing at home against Mount Everett Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season.
