Soccer Game Preview: St. Thomas More Academy vs. American Leadership Academy-Johnston

The St. Thomas More Academy Chancellors will head out to square off against the American Leadership Academy-Johnston Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Thomas More Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 2.7 goals per game this season.

While St. Thomas More Academy's win against Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Chancellors narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Lion 4-3. The win continues a trend for St. Thomas More Academy in their matchups with Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill: they've now won four in a row.

Juliana Larson and Grace Kelly scored all four of St. Thomas More Academy's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 13 goals.

Meanwhile, American Leadership Academy-Johnston was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They lost 9-0 to St. Mary's. While losing is never fun, American Leadership Academy-Johnston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 472nd, while St. Mary's are ranked 188th).

American Leadership Academy-Johnston's loss dropped their record down to 0-10. As for St. Thomas More Academy, they now have a winning record of 6-5-1.

St. Thomas More Academy took their victory against American Leadership Academy-Johnston when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 9-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chancellors since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
