Newport - Bellevue and Mount Si are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. Newport - Bellevue will venture away from home to face off against Mount Si at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Newport - Bellevue has given up an average of 7.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Newport - Bellevue is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 24 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against North Creek on Monday. They lost 17-1 to the Jaguars. The game marked the Knights' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Newport - Bellevue saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lauren Blank, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mount Si). They blew past Hazen 28-1 on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Eleanor Riley made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Riley was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Bielenberg, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bella Scappini, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.
Mount Si hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hazen struck out ten times.
The win made it two in a row for Mount Si and bumps their season record up to 4-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Newport - Bellevue, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1-1 and their overall record down to 3-2-1.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Newport - Bellevue has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .637. However, it's not like Mount Si struggles in that department as they've averaged .502. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Newport - Bellevue might still be hurting after the 12-6 defeat they got from Mount Si in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Newport - Bellevue avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
