Baseball Recap: Springfield Starts off Right with Win over New Berlin

Springfield had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the New Berlin Pretzels on Tuesday. The Senators not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 23, 2024.

A.J. Ozier and Brody Scheffler made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Ozier pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Meanwhile, Scheffler struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Ozier went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Scheffler scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Elliott, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Levi Freidrich was another, scoring a run and stealing three bases.

Springfield didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-4 win against Springfield Southeast on the 19th. As for New Berlin, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Routt Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on the 31st.
