Basketball Game Preview: Dyett Eagles vs. Mt. Vernon Rams

The Dyett Eagles and the Mt. Vernon Rams will face off at 12:45 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Dyett will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

Dyett saw some tournament action on Thursday. They put the hurt on Southridge with a sharp 68-45 win. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 21 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Mt. Vernon beat Glenwood 42-37 on Thursday. The 42-point effort marked the Rams' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Dyett better focus on containing David Barnes and Cale Maurer as the pair were huge in Mt. Vernon's win. Barnes posted 18 points and six rebounds, while Maurer earned seven points and 15 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Maurer a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Brogan Holloway, who had six points.

Mt. Vernon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive games.

Mt. Vernon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Dyett, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.

Dyett came up short against Mt. Vernon in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 49-39. Can Dyett avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
